The American Dream

In the Great Gatsby- Jay Gatsby has sold his soul to attain the love of his life- Daisy. My question to you is this: is there anything or anyone in this life that is worth sacrificing your entire life for?

  1. Sacrificing your entire life for one single cause or person might be a little extreme, although this all depends on the subject of your sacrifice. I do believe there are certain things that are worth such a sacrifice. For instance, I believe personally that living your life for Christ is not only a worth-while sacrifice but one that resounds eternally.
The number of things people live for and invest in, which ultimatly results in sacrifice, are limitless. Sadly, it seems we tend to "set aside the important at the demand of the urgent" which in the end amounts to nothing.

  2. I would sacrifice my life for my daughter because she means everything to me. Under God she is the person that I care about the most. If the situation is not worth making my daughter suffer I will not put my life in risk, but if it will protect her I know that her family will be there to help her understand why I made that choice.

  3. At this point in my life, although I would like to say that I would, I do not believe that I would sacrifice my life for anyone or anything, besides God. However, even giving up my life for Him would be extremely difficult, and even though I think that I would keep my committment to Him, I am afraid that my human self would give into its selfish desires. Giving up your life for someone or something requires a unique kind of love that, in my opinion, everyone eventually feels towards something or someone.

  4. Aside from one's relationship with Christ, and their loved ones. There is no other reason for that sacrifice.

  5. Sacrificing your whole life for someone is a very big step. At this point in my life, I do not believe it is wise. I could understand further down the road where sacrificing my life for my children would be acceptable, but that's because it would be beneficial not only to them but to me as well. The only other person worth sacrificing your life for is God because without Him nothing is possible. I do not believe you should sacrifice your whole life even for your spouse. Some things are necessary, marriage is giving yourself to another person, but that does not mean you should sacrifice your whole life for them. They should marry you for who you are, and that consists of certain aspects of your life. So, right now in my life God is the only one worthy of my life, but later on down the road, I know my children will be as well.

Sacrificing yourself would really have to take alot of heart, but in this time period we seem to hear about it all the time. Sacrificing for your country, friends and family. Its on the news in songs and books. I believe that protecting your country is a honorable way to be remembered, but dying without a respectable cause isn't going to be worth the sacrifice. Being so young in life I don't really have a reason to sacrifice myself, besides God. Someday I will find that reason and if the time comes I will gladly protect it.

  7. Wow, what encouraging blogs. Just as most have said, the only thing in this life that I see worth sacrificing my whole life for would be for the cause of Christ. Even though this might not require me losing my life, it is an enormous commitment. Aside from this, I do not believe that there is anything or anyone worth sacrificing my life for considering my possible lack of knowledge and discernment at this point in my life.
